A Closer Look At Hell

Matthew 13:49-50: So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, 50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Next time you are shopping and there is a child crying the entire time you are in a store, compare the irritation that you feel with what unbelievers will feel when they hear wailing eternally with no escape from it. Try to imagine listening to several million wailing babies at one time. And, remember, you will be one of them. As I age I am losing some of my hearing. There will be no hearing loss in the Lake of Fire that will ever lower the volume of the wailing. As for the gnashing of teeth, that too will be eternal. If there is tooth decay there, it will never advance far enough to stop the gnashing of teeth.

Luke 16:24-25: And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

There will be no cool water to drink in that place of torment. Imagine being in the hottest desert on earth without any water. The place of torments will be far worse and it will never end. Eternal dehydration. In deserts people have seen mirages. The cool water that was available to Lazarus was no mirage, it was real. The rich man*s torment was made far worse because he could see the paradise that he missed.

Jude 1:12-13: These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; 13 Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

Unbelievers sometimes enjoy being among believers without fear. They spoil the feasts of charity. There will be no feasts of charity (love) in the Lake of Fire. There will be no love there. There will be no one there capable of love. They are blown about and have no control over where they go. They will wander endlessly in darkness.

Mark 9:43-44: And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: 44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

Can you imagine anything more creepy than having worms crawling on you and it never ends. When you touch a hot stove with your finger, you can quickly remove the finger. Unbelievers will never have a moment of relief from the heat of that fire.

I trust you are now sufficiently sickened by these things, as I am, to ask yourself some questions. Are any of the people that you encounter on their way to that horrid place? Are you praying for them? Are you telling them that God loves them and wants to save them from that horrible fate?

2 Corinthians 5:11a: Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; . . .

Jude 1:22-23a: And of some have compassion, making a difference: 23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; . . .

I cannot verify it, but I have heard more than once that the Bible speaks more about Hell than it does about Heaven. May the Lord direct us to give each individual the portion of the whole counsel of God that he needs!!
